Industry Partnerships

  • King Tech has advisory committees for every course. An advisory committee is a group of individuals selected by the program to advise the program regarding educational needs and activities. The membership comes from outside King Tech and consists of persons who:

    • are interested in career and/or technical education
    • have specialized knowledge and experience
    • represent business, industry, government and/or the military

  • Collectively, a committee studies issues, advises and makes recommendations regarding:

    • current job needs
    • the relevance of current programs
    • the reduction or expansion of programs
    • the initiation of new programs
    • financial and legislative support
    • promotion of King Tech programs in the community.

  • Committees act in an advisory capacity to King Tech and the Anchorage School District and provide a strong link to between King Tech and the community.

If you are interested in serving on an advisory committee for one of our programs, please call 742-8900. Committees meet regularly during the school year, as schedules allow.

Internships & Work-Based Learning:  We believe that extending the classroom beyond our walls is an important piece to King Tech’s mission, and so we offer a variety of opportunities for students who have demonstrated that they are good candidates for workplace experiences. King Tech has a Cooperative Education Agreement that allows eligible students to participate in a six-week unpaid internship with an industry partner. The internship allows students to “try on a career” before they leave high school and pay for training in technical school, college or apprenticeships. To be eligible, students must have completed one or more semesters of a King Tech class and meet the following criteria: 90 percent attendance, a grade of “A” or “B,” and a teacher's recommendation.

Apprenticeships:  King Tech is proud to have partnerships with the following union and non-union organizations that may provide our students opportunities for on-the-job training and potential direct interview into
apprenticeships: NECA/IBEW; Alaska Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Trust; Alaska Laborers’ 341; Visser Construction; Plumbers and Pipefitters; Sheet Metal Workers; NC Machinery; Southern Alaska Carpenters Union Training Center; Alaska Associated Builders and Contractors of Alaska, Inc.; Teamsters, Carlile Transportation, and Ironworkers Local Union 751.
