Welding
Welding
Welding 1 provides training in the fundamentals of the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process. Instruction is given in oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, basic fabrication of weldments, use of grinders and sheers. These skills combined culminates in a chance of earning a welding certification at the end of the semester.
Second semester students learn more advanced fabrication with the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process. While learning GMAW the students will prepare for a steel welding certification test towards the end of the semester but will also learn about welding aluminum with the process.
Third and Fourth semester students will learn Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) and pipe welding with all the processes learned in the first three semesters. In additon to advancing students' welding skills, there will be opportunities for students to earn various positions within the shop, including Safety Manager, Foreman, and Loss Prevention. These roles are intended to provide students with insights into the functions of a real-world job site while helping them develop essential leadership, safety, and organization skills that are valuable in the work force. Possible recommendations to trade unions can be earned with a good attitude and great work ethic.
