Collision Repair & Refinishing

Collision Repair and Refinishing

Using the I-CAR curriculum, students in Collision Repair & Refinishing will learn metal straightening, plastic filler application, body panel replacement, sectioning, minor frame repair, auto body alignment, and glass replacement. Shop refinish practices include surface preparation, mixing and applying paint, complete vehicle refinishing and blending. I-CAR certificates can be earned. Second through fourth semester students will be expected to complete course work and projects at an advanced level and to demonstrate competencies in skill areas not covered in the previous semesters. Qualified advanced students may be eligible for job site internships. Students must purchase safety glasses.

 

Grade level 11-12. May be taken 4 times with a grade of “C” or better to advance and with teacher permission. AM and PM sessions offered

Kirk Gallagher- Instructor

Mr. Gallagher has 20 years of experience in collision repair, I-CAR Platinum certified in non-structural repair, working on becoming platinum certification in structural repair before I took this opportunity to teach the next wave of body and refinish technicians. He got his start in a small family-owned business, where he learned many different aspects of collision repair. From learning how to write a damage estimate, to repairing and refinishing, along with customer service skills. He spent 16 years working in the body repair side of the industry here in Anchorage.
